Writer and journalist David Sheff talks to Judy Woodruff of PBS about his new book, "Clean: Overcoming Addiction and Ending America's Greatest Tragedy."
After seeing his own son battle with addiction he learned about one of the most common illnesses in America. Sheff's first book "Beautiful Boy" dealt with his struggles as a father.
In "Clean" Shef explains why our current approach to addiction and drug abuse is mistaken and counterproductive. He talks about why most programs have largely failed to help the 20 million people struggling with the disease. And he explains that the stigma of addiction is one of the root causes of ineffective treatment and support.
