Volunteers of America honored Portland philanthropists Al and Nancy Jubitz, and The Skanner News' publishers, Bobbie and Bernie Foster, at the 13th annual DePriest Award ceremony.

Al and Nancy Jubitz received the DePriest Award for Excellence, recognizing their work with the Jubitz Family Foundation to support peace building, environmental stewardship and early childhood education.
Bernie and Bobbie Foster received the Vic Atiyeh Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing their work on behalf of underserved communities. Former Gov. Vic Atiyeh attended the event.
The awards ceremony was held Feb. 12 at the Portland Hilton. More than $60,000 was raised to further the work of Volunteers of America, Oregon.

Diane Charlton, whose mother, Eleanor, attends Volunteers of America’s Marie Smith Day Center for seniors and fragile adults.
Isaiah Holt, a former gang member, now an electrician and certified personal trainer. Holt credits Volunteers of America’s CPR program for helping him turn his life around. Click here to read our story about the program.
